South Coast Offshore Racing Association
Over the last few years the South Coast Offshore Racing Association SCORA has been meaning to change the class bands for its events to promote closer class racing.
The Class bands used for the last few years were seen to be under pressure as a result of thefollowing:
· ‘Annual Depreciation’ in IRC ratings i.e. some boats had a rating of .940 a few years ago now have a rating of .915.
· A steady increase in the number and size of boats in the fleet.
· Old boats continuing to race.
· Class spreads in Class 1 (.980-1.150) and Class 3 (.914-.700) are very large and favour the top end boats.
Thus it was decided at a Committee meeting in the Royal Cork YC on Wednesday 26th of March to adopt a new system of Class bands. The new System is taking the bottom end boats in Class 2 (Formula 28, First 32) and the top end boats in class 3 (Impalas, Large ¼ Tonner’s) and combining them in a new class 3 Fleet. While the lower boats in class 3 will become class 4 i.e. Moody’s, Trappers, Ruffian 23s and GK 24s.
